Google...China...and Us

Google...China...and Us
Moral challenges we face.
By Representative Christopher Smith
On Wednesday, I conducted a hearing to examine China's human-rights record. Over the years, I have held more than 25 hearings on human-rights abuses in China and although some economic progress has been made, the human-rights situation remains abysmal.
Among other things, this week's visit of President Hu Jintao to the United States provides an opportunity to expose the terrible human-rights situation in China today on a global stage. And it will, I hope, convey our unshakeable regard and commitment to press Beijing for serious, measurable, and desirable reform. Any relationship we have with China must begin with a fundamental respect for basic human rights. The people of China deserve no less. It is our moral duty to stand with the oppressed, not with the oppressor.

State Department and other human-rights watchdogs indicate that Chinese government's repression of its citizens continues. In fact, the current regime is one of the worst violators of human rights in the world. The most recent State Department Human Rights Report for China is approximately 45,000 words and lists 22 major rights problems.

Beijing views the information on the Internet as a potential threat to the party's control over the people and the monopolization of political power. And so, they restrict it. The freedom to publish information and read news on the web unfiltered does not exist and individuals who attempt to speak freely are frequently imprisoned and tortured. U.S. corporations should not be aiding in that process. Yet at a February hearing I chaired on global Internet freedom, some of the biggest corporations in America revealed how they have partnered with the Chinese secret police to find, apprehend, convict, and jail religious believers and pro-democracy advocates.
Though Yahoo voiced their profound regret for the imprisonment of Shi Tao for 10 years, they couldn't say — and didn't seem to know — how many others were condemned to jail and torture because of their willingness to comply with the secret police. When asked under what conditions — court order, police demand, a fishing trip — Yahoo surrenders e-mails and files to authorities, their representative declined to reveal the information because it would break Chinese law. Sadly, it was revealed at our hearing that Yahoo's cooperation with the Chinese police has seemingly lead to the imprisonment of another democracy advocate, Jiang Lijun.

Google, for its part, created a search engine tailored to the wishes of the People's Republic of China. Type in any number of searches, for "human rights," or "Tiananmen Square massacre," or "Falun Gong," and the site conveniently reroutes the web surfer to government propaganda — much of it heavily anti-American, anti-Bush, and full of hate. Google responded to concerns about enabling a dictatorship to expand its message of hate by hiring big-time lobbying firms like Podesta-Mattoon, and the DCI group to put a good face on it all — and presumably kill my pending legislation, the Global Online Freedom Act of 2006.

Amazingly, Cisco showed no concern whatsoever that its "Policenet" technology — a tool for good in the hands of legitimate law enforcement, but a tool of repression in the hands of Chinese police — has now linked and expanded the capabilities of the Chinese police. Microsoft censors and shuts down blogs that the government objects to. (So I'm guessing Bill Gates kept human rights off the agenda when he hosted Hu on Tuesday.)

A STALINIST NIGHTMARE REVIVED FOR THE 20TH CENTURY
China's continued repression of religion is among the most despotic in the world. Citizens practicing a faith other than officially sanctioned religions are often subject to torture, imprisonment, and death at which time prisoner organs are frequently harvested. Christians, Tibetan Buddhists, and Muslim Uighurs are all being persecuted for their faith. Today, numerous underground Roman Catholic priests and bishops and Protestant pastors languish in the infamous concentration camps of China for simply proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Beijing reserves a special hatred for the Falun Gong. Nearly seven years ago, the government began its brutal campaign to eradicate Falun Gong after party members and Army officials had begun to practice the faith. Like all totalitarian governments, the PRC fears and hates what it cannot control. It is a Stalinist nightmare revived for the 21st century.

China's one-child per couple policy, decreed in 1979, has killed hundreds of million babies by imposing Draconian fines — up to ten times annual salaries — on parents. Brothers and sisters are illegal and sex selection abortions have resulted in gendercide (100 million girls who should be alive today are not). One Chinese demographer has admitted that by 2020, forty million Chinese men won't be able to find wives because population control will have destroyed the girls.
There is no recourse for millions of Chinese laborers trapped in poor working conditions. Those who protest unjust wage and labor practices outside of the government-controlled labor union are arrested and imprisoned. Citizens are often persecuted for seeking help from the court system to secure rights that the law, as restrictive as at is, guarantees them. Lawyers who seek to help them are threatened, harassed, beaten, disbarred, and jailed. They may join countless prisoners of conscience in their modern-day concentration camps.

China admits to continuing a barbaric policy of harvesting human organs for sale and transplant. We are told that siince 1993, there have been over 65,000 transplant procedures performed in China and a deputy health minister recently stated that 95 percent of the organs are from executed prisoners. In an effort to boost profits, it is reported that some provincial or local officials have begun to allow mobile medical vans at execution sites to facilitate the harvesting of prisoners' organs. The State Department and the U.N. are investigating claims that China is targeting the thousands of innocent Falun Gong prisoners it holds for organ harvesting and perhaps not even waiting until they are dead.

The Communist regime in the Soviet Union fell after the economy collapsed and voices of freedom and democracy were able to break through the walls of repression. The Communist regime in China today has learned from the mistakes of the former regime and seeks to build and consolidate economic power while quickly and harshly stifling dissent. Human rights are everyone's rights. Governments are instituted to secure, protect, and safeguard those rights. Human rights aren't privileges. Human rights are worth fighting for, even when inconvenient.

Iran - The Bad Neighbor

So how would you feel if your neighbor, across the street, went to the press and publicly said they wanted to wipe you off the face of the planet?

Prior to that police reports said your neighbor was building above and below ground shelters in their back yard. It was believed that your neighbor was fabricating, and then stockpiling, shoulder launched missiles. There were even photos taken from a police helicopter which were sufficient to issue search warrants.

Unfortunately, on the next flyover the "proof" of the buildings where the missile building was said to be going on, where removed. Now your neighbor says all he was doing was doing some experiments for his hobby, which was designing scale model windmills for electrical generation. So the police couldn't follow through.

Your neighbor has always been very vocal about how much he hates you, your family and anyone who claims to be your friend. So while you have very good reason to believe that he will follow through with his threats, the rest of your neighbors aren't supporting at all. They've heard the threats so many times, they are desensitized to them. Even though this same neighbor once kidnaped members of your family keeping them for almost a year. If that wasn't enough, this obviously insane neighbor also regularly sends money to terrorist organizations.

One neighbor who has supported your side, now has to deal with paid assassins and terrorists attacking them, and actually killing members of their family. But that would happen anyway, just because as Christians your neighbor considers them "infidels."

It's ridiculous to assume that simply because your neighbor hasn't yet killed you or your family, that he won't do so at the first opportunity.

This is the position that Israel is in, and through them, the United States also. Iran has made it's intentions clear, and they are trying to become a nuclear power as soon as possible.

Unfortunately our discovering Iran’s nuclear facilities, only resulted in them going underground with their programs. Since then, they have continued to go back and forth between denying that they have any nuclear weapons program, to saying their program is for nuclear power only, to saying they will do whatever they want.

Anyone that believes that the forth largest oil producer in the world, needs or would even consider a nuclear program to actually generate electric power, is either ignorant or just stupid. The only kind of power Iran's nuclear program will generate is the power of a nuclear bomb. The power to destroy. To say that any who believes Iran's lies are in denial would be an understatement. Iran does not need a nuclear power plant.

Just like the fictional family above, we get little to no support in fighting terrorists, while protecting innocent people who are being attacked and murdered, almost on a daily basis in Iraq. Telling us that we should just leave Iraq would result in the terrorists (not "insurgents" terrorists) taking over again. If Sadam were still in power, many thousands more Iraqi citizens, and who knows who else would be dead.

Sadam was clearly a mass murderer who inflicted the worst type of terror on his own citizens. But–we are to believe that the threats of an insane regime governed by religious fanatics.

Made in China - Death Sentence for US Citizens

Would you hire one of the 911 terrorists to baby sit your child? Of course not. But that's exactly what you are doing when you purchase products made in China... Or if you own or run a corporationwhich contracts for production of items in china. It's time Americans recognize the threat china poses to "US". When they can figure out how to maintain the safety and standard of living of their political leaders and an army (or nuclear arsenal) large enough to protect them, including needed weapons, food and oil,.. That's when they will begin a physical attack on the US. That's all of US for you liberals out there.

Is this likely? Who can say? It may be more likely that China uses non-military methods to attack us, such as the 911 terrorists did. But we are already under economic attack, which has negatively impacted the industrial production of the US, which we may never recover from if we don't do something now.

China attacks US daily through greedy US corporations, as well as those in other international countries, who have sold out the security of the US--as well as that of their own families--for short term profits. Through this action these companies are also putting large US companies, and small businesses alike into bankruptcy or out of business. None of which can compete head to head with daily wages of Chinese companies which only pay about $14 per day.

Unfortunately too many US citizens would by a brand new mid-size vehicle made in China, around the $9k to $10k mark. Just as they are now buying toys, tools, electronics, and everything else you can think of, even though the quality of the product is poor on a good day. Bullets are cheap too, but most parents wouldn't consider using one to ease their child's hunger. By 2008 China is expected to be importing a line of cars, much in the fashion that Hyundai did in the 1980s. This is not an attempt to compete with US automakers. It is a plan to shut US auto manufacturing down for good. If we let it happen it is possible. This will take away almost all of our abilbity to manufacture conventional military hardware we need to protect ourselves, not only from China but from every other county which seeks our destruction. This list is growing too. Industrial domestic production capability will go from good to almost nonexistent. Where would we have been during WWII without the production capabilites of the US automakers, which was diverted to military needs?

Countries presently, or once thought of as our allies, are now being bought off through major Chinese acqusitions of oil companies, oil production, and other industries and raw minerals necessary to wage war, and survive any embargo or blockade we still have the ability to impose against them. These counties will, at some point, will be blackmailed (economic cut off of income that they will by then be reliant upon) or though direct military threats, or both.

Meanwhile China finances terrorism directly, even after 9-11, while bolstering it's own economy.
Taking the above into consideration, China knows that they may not need to physically attack US. Through allowing China's global economic takeover, by individual and corporate investment in their economy, we are paying China for the contract they have out on our own deaths--everyt time you buy something "made in China".

From Toys to Complete Automobiles

From Toys to Complete Automobiles
So what happens a couple years from now, when you have a one out of 100 chance of being able to find anything made in the USA, in any US store, instead of about a 10 or 20 percent chance of that now. When China has sufficiently stockpiled resources, weapons, and contracts with countries globally which have control over much of the known oil reserves, they could them cut off delivery of goods which they now manufacture and export to US. The former US counterpart AKA "Made In America", in most cases has been driven out of business due to the cheep labor used to produce it, and companies like Wal Mart feed them to us intravenously, and in doing so desensitize us to the danger.

Automobiles and Major Production
This all was, of course, done by China for that specific reason. An attack from China is possible, and may happen when China has sufficiently reduced major US production capability. This is all part of the goal of China, with plans of bringing complete cars into the US.

While the US automakers are struggling, and closing plants, they will introduce their cheep cars, and will keep prices low enough to drastically affect American car sales. This will force the US automakers to send more work to the Mexican assembly plants, which are increasing all the time. As plants close, and we loose skilled workers, and massive production capabilities. The kind of capabilities that helped US and our Allies win WWII.

Oil
China is also investing heavily in oil and minerals in India, Africa, Central America and South America, and that’s just the start. When China puts the hammer down, and attacks Taiwan or other countries to which we have an interest in, much of our oil and mineral supplies will be cut by countries to which China is forming these strategic and economic alliances with now. They will be under China's thumb, and will cave to their demands. This will blast gas and oil prices beyond prices which many Americans can afford. The result will be jobs lost, our ability to produce much of the equipment needed to fight an invasion of our or another county, will be greatly reduced, a marked increase in crime, and a fight for our American way of life, and possibly even our very lives on US soil.

Even before it gets to this point though, China's massive increase in the amount of vehicles they are producing for use within China, and those who can afford to move from a bike or motor scooter to a car, will create a gradual increase in oil prices to the extent that by the time China forces their central and South American suppliers to cut us off, many Americans will already have been forced to park their cars. All this doesn’t even take into consideration of what will happen when China further allies itself with Iran, and other mid eastern oil producing terrorist countries. In order to feed their need for oil, they will have to cut off our supplies. This already began some time ago, and recent meeting with Saudi Arabia regarding oil contracts and ICBMs for the Saudi’s, should make the hair on the back of your neck stand up.

China’s need for oil will be even more for military purposes, than just for their economic growth. After the Mideast and South American oil is dedicated, and protected by the Chinese military, we will not have the fuel to wage war. Out air forces and navy will be grounded to a large extent. If this is the case, then we will of course have no fuel for personal use. The threat will be severe, and worst case scenario could be total destruction of major US cities or countries such as Israel. Even now if may be too late for us to bump up our own oil exploration, productions, and refinery capabilities, do to the actions of liberal US politicians who feel a few animals in Alaska having to move a mile here or there, is more traumatic than another terrorist attack, or having 66% of our oil supply being cut off, which would plunge us into a depression, and leave us vulnerable to attack. The fact that it will take about ten years to get the type of production we need in Alaska going, which would ease the damage in this scenario, only makes our situation more urgent. So we must begin right way. When China has stockpiled resources,

With the above scenario, what are our choices? The next step from China, or Iran with the blessing of China, is a nuclear hit, or multiple hits, from them. If you don’t think China has a part in Iran’s nuclear weapons program, then you are wearing blinders.

So we need to stop Chinese cars from being imported, period. As for current Chinese imports, we need to immediately impose import tariffs which get progressively higher every year. The money from the imports must go into new business start ups, or modernization and expansion, to create replacements and competition for the Chinese imports. The tariff eventually needs to be set so that nothing made in China can be sold for a similar item made in the USA. This must include all Chinese products. Unfortunately, we will have to do that slowly now, so US companies, can have time to tool up and take over production of these products. But we don't have Chinese cars in the US yet... And we still do have our own domestic vehicle productions, even though way too much of that has gone to Mexico. Even many of the Japanese automakers who now have plants in the US are using parts made in Mexico, or other countries, for assembly in the US plants. So our actual "US" auto production is dwindling at a scary rate, with those still in the US, or comming here, being only assembly plants. GM and Dodge have been making "American" vehicles in Mexico for many years.

The bottom line is, every dollar each American spends on products made in China, eventually goes into the Chinese government and military. It’s like paying a hit man to have yourself murdered. Spokespersons for Chinese companies will say that they are independent, but there just isn’t any such thing in a communist dictatorship. Such a government cares nothing of the individual, and takes what they want when they want it.

More on the US, Mexico, China automaker connection later.

Google Sharing with China but Withholding from US

Google and China... With all the data being stored by Google and other search engines you have to wonder. Every other search engine is sharing the requested information from the US Justice Department, regarding the prevalence of porn, to help determine how it may be getting to children. But Google is refusing.

My thought is that with the suspicious rate of climb of Google stock, except for the past couple days, spurned on by not much more than the rantings of so called "news" or entertainment hosts on TV, you have to wonder if those ranting about the expected increases to the stock haven't been paid by Google itself. This is a cheap way to try to create a buying frenzy, to jack up a stock which represents little more than air. It's the next internet stock crash in the making.

What use is all this information that Google records about everyone who uses their search engine? Well since they will sell it to almost anyone, as that is the only rea product they have... Infomation, what is to stop China, Iran, and other such countries from buying information from them. This can then be used to make many types of anaylisis to determine which areas of the US would make the best target for and EMP device (bomb to wipe out all electornics and computers), terrorism, or what US industries they will attempt to take over next. This information can, and will, help terrorists determine many invaluable facts related to governmental targets, commercial, industrial, and large residential soft targets. It also helps them determine each target's ablility to repel or react to specific types of terrorist attacks.

The fact that Google is trying to become China's main search engine, regardless of how much information they restrict from the people of China, which could help lead them out of the represive and violent regime which has it's thumb on them. As long as Google stock holders, and the two main Google guys behind the wheel, that is what is important. So much for liberal ideals. Money first, ideals... well they'll still try to say they hold to them, by supporting the ACLU, and other muck raking organizations bent on furthering their warped causes.

I wouldn't be surprised if China didn't have a behind the scenes hand in getting Google where they are now, possibly without Google knowing. What are the keys to power? Information and money. Now they have both of those, while China and Google skip off to their next joint conquest.
